HDTune and ATTO Results
HDTune Results
I deleted the Partition on both portable HDD’s prior to performing any of the testing with HDTune. This can be accomplished through the use of Windows 7’s Disk Management feature of this Operating System.
We are going to start our testing with HDTune’s Read performance; the result I am more concerned with the average read speed not the burst rate. Looking at these results the Seagate 1TB Back Up plus HDD trails the Western Digital 2TB My Book Essential portable HDD by of almost 9MB/s.
Turning our attention to the Write portion of HDTune’s testing results, once again the Western Digital 2TB My Book Essential leads the Seagate 1TB Back up Plus portable HDD by this of almost 4MB/s.
ATTO Results
ATTO is one of the oldest drive benchmarks still being used today and is still very relevant in the SSD world. ATTO measures transfers across a specific volume length. It measures raw transfer rates for both reads and writes and places the data into graphs that can be very easily interpreted. The test was run with the default runs of 0.5KB through 8192KB transfer sizes with the total length being 256MB.
Looking at these results from ATTo’s testing during the 0.5KB files the Seagate 1TB Back Up Plus leads the Western Digital 2TB My Book Essential portable HDD by almost 2MB/s during the Write portion, and almost 1.3MB/s during the read portion of testing. But during the 128 and 512 Read Write testing the Western Digital 2TB My Book Essential.
