Final Thoughts & Conclusions
The SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive that we are looking at today is 64GB in capacity (1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes). This drive shows up as having a 59.6GB (1GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes) capacity in Windows . The conversion from physical GB to the virtual GiB why there is a difference. Having nearly 60GB of space should be more than enough for most peoples needs!
The SanDisk 64GB Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive is one of the fastest USB drives that you can buy today and we were impressed by the numbers that we were able to reach. To see sequential data transfer numbers hitting 215MB/s read and 189MB/s write in CrystalDiskMark was simply amazing. This drive is the fastest offered by SanDisk and is also one of the fastest USB 3.0 Flash drives to be offered by any company.
As we already told you in the introduction, the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive series is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. All three of these capacities are rated to have up to 190MB/s read, but all greatly vary in write performance. The write performance for the drives is 55MB/s, 110MB/s, 170MB/s respectively. Write performance basically doubles as the capacity doubles! If you write data to your flash drive often you might want to go with one of the larger capacities in order to get the improved write performance.
If you are worried about data security the 128-bit AES encryption is a nice touch and the SecureAccess Software makes it easy to setup and use. There are without a doubt more secure drives out there, but this should be plenty for mainstream users and remember this drive was designed from the ground up to be fast and it certainly is.
The SanDisk 64GB Extreme USB 3.0 Flash drive can be purchased for $83.33 shipped and is backed by a lifetime warranty. Not a bad price considering that 64GB SuperSpeed USB 3.0 drives on Newegg range in price from $65 to $118. We didn't run across any flaws or issues with this drive, so it looks like SanDisk has a winner here.
Legit Bottom Line: If you want a USB 3.0 drive that has impressive read/write speeds and an affordable price, look no further than the SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 series!
