Final Thoughts & Conclusion

The OCZ Fatal1ty 1000W power supply is certainly a unique product in terms of appearance but also capable of delivering very good performance figures under stress. In terms of appearance, there is little to say that the pictures of the unit did not already do.  If you are a fan of individually sleeved cables, OCZ will be saving you a huge amount of time and effort with this particular unit. The Fatal1ty 1000W power supply is also undoubtedly capable of excellent performance, particularly when it comes to the outstanding filtering of the voltage lines.  Quality wise, the use of all Japanese capacitors increases the prestige and longevity of the power supply but the heatsinks and fan could use an upgrade.

The PSU internals

Although the Fatal1ty 1000W unit is exceptional, it is not without flaws. The individually sleeved cables, fancy as they may be, add a significant amount of bulk to each cable. While this is not much of a problem for standard gaming systems inside large cases, it certainly is going to be a notable problem if the system has many graphics cards and drives or if a strong system is installed inside a relatively small case. It might also prove to be a problem if the case is designed so that the cables would be routed from the behind of the motherboard tray and does not provide considerable clearance. Performance wise, the mediocre thermal performance and noise of the unit at high loads was slightly disappointing, although that likely is simply a side effect of the too small heatsinks used in this particular design.

Rear side and the modular connectors

The retail price of the Fatal1ty 1000W unit is slightly high, currently retailing around $219.99 (Newegg sells it for $239.99); however, it is not either the most expensive 1000W unit available nor more expensive than its direct competition. Most high performance modular 1000W units currently retail for about $200, which makes the market price of the Fatal1ty 1000W unit just about right.

The OCZ Fatal1ty 1000W is a well-balanced power supply of high quality, offering great performance and a unique appearance. Considering its target group, it may not be cheap but it is not excessively expensive either. We are certain that hardcore users will enjoy the Fatal1ty 1000W unit, particularly those who would like to have a unit with individually sleeved cables but do not have the skills or the time to perform such an extensive modification. Finally, despite the fact that this is a “gaming power supply” of a “gamer series” and endorsed by Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel himself, just do not expect it to actually improve your gaming skills by the slightest bit.

Legit Bottom Line: The OCZ Fatal1ty 1000W Power supply was found to be well designed and the sleeved cables add that extra touch.
