Final Thoughts and Conclusions
At the end of the day we saw an overall performance increase of 63% when going from a single GeForce GTX 680 Surround to a 2-way SLI Surround multi-monitor setup from the seven game titles we tested. This is a nice performance gain and it did make for an overall better gaming experience at a resolution of 5760x1080.
After running NVIDIA Surround for a number of weeks we have found it to be a fairly solid setup with just a few minor hiccups. One of the main issues we have found with this setup is that the Windows task bar will move from the default position at the bottom of the middle monitor to the top of the middle monitor. It's very strange and it happens after the system is restarted. We even tried the new GeForce 301.24 Beta drivers to see if it fixes the issue, but it still happens.
If you can afford a pair of $499 graphics cards and a triple monitor setup, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 in 2-way Surround makes for an awesome gaming experience that you really need to try out in person to fully understand. It has a few quirks here and there, but nothing critical that we could find that would cause us not to recommend this setup!
Legit Bottom Line: Running a
pair of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680's in 2-way SLI Surround helped boost our performance by 63% on average at a resolution of 5760x1080!
