How Far Have AMD & Intel Integrated Graphics Come Since 2006?

Colin McRae's DiRT 2
Colin McRae: Dirt 2 features five racing disciplines, all of which are playable offline and online. In addition, three 'special modes' are included. Dirt 2 runs on an updated version of the EGO engine, which powered Codemasters' Race Driver: GRiD as well. The engine most notably features an updated physics engine, which models realistic weight transfer during turning maneuvers, allowing the player to incorporate advanced driving techniques such as the Scandinavian Flick.
Benchmark Results: The Intel G965, G35 and G45 chipsets all had the latest drivers installed and none would properly render this game title correctly. The Intel H55 and H67 platforms with the newer Intel HD Graphics technology would, but as you can see the performance is way behind AMD. The AMD 690G lacks SM 3.0 support, so it wasn't included again. The AMD 780G and 785G performed nearly identically, but we saw nice performance gains with the AMD 890GX (ATI Radeon HD 4290) and the AMD A75 (AMD Radeon HD 6550D). AMD Radeon HD graphics performance has improved nearly 6x since the AMD 780G motherboard was released on March 4, 2008. Intel graphics performance has improved nearly 7x since the Intel G965 motherboard was released on February 13, 2007.
