GeForce GTX 580 Showdown: ASUS Matrix vs.EVGA Classified

When it comes to overclocking we had very high hopes for both of these graphics cards as these cards are designed for those that want to overclock. We left the original heatsinks on the cards, cranked the fans up to 100% and started raising the voltage and clock frequencies.
The ASUS MATRIX GeForce GTX 580 Platinum started off with the lowest core clock speeds, so we weren't too sure how it would overclock. To our amazement we were able to get the core clock up to 957MHz and the memory up to 1100MHz. The shader clock speed at this core clock was an impressive 1914MHz! This is an impressive 141MHz overclock on the already overclocked core clock speed! Remember the original clock speed for this core from NVIDIA was 772MHz, so we are 185MHz over that! The 3DMark 11 score broke 8,000 and was recorded at P8051. This overclock was 100% rock solid and we have gamed on it for days at a time with no issues.
The ASUS MATRIX GeForce GTX 580 Platinum had the highest clock speeds to start with, but we hit a wall with it at 946MHz on the core and we were only able to get the memory 10MHz higher. We are guessing that since this card has 3072MB of GDDR5 memory on it that we would most certainly be running into some limits there. Even though we couldn't get as far on this card we were still able to reach a nice 3DMark 11 score of P7938.
When it comes to gaming performance the ASUS MATRIX GTX580 Platinum went from 58.4 FPS to 64.9 FPS at a resolution of 1980x1080. This is a performance increase of 11.1% on an already overclocked card!
