Unboxing the SilverStone SST-RVS02 External HDD Enclosure

SST-RVS02

Like all SilverStone products, the packaging of the SST-RVS02 is both elegant and modest. Emblazoned on the front of the box is blue and white lettering, proclaiming that the 2.5” external enclosure contained within supports SuperSpeed USB 3.0 for both hard drives and SSDs. The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 specification boasts a 5Gb/s transmission rate, however, this is purely theoretical as system overhead and other factors are likely to affect this.

SST-RVS02 Box Rear

The rear of the box offers a short specification table extolling the more notable features of SilverStone’s first USB 3.0-based 2.5” external hard drive enclosure. Since the SST-RVS02 hails from the vaunted Raven line, we can be sure that the product will be enthusiast-oriented with a solid feature set combined with aggressive styling cues. If the SST-RVS02 is anything like the 2.5” USB 2.0/eSATA-based SST-RVS01 external HDD enclosure, we are in for a treat.

SST-RVS02 Box Open

Couched in a protective bag, the SST-RVS02 lays in a cardboard tray with a display window in the lid of the box. Lifting the tray will reveal the accessories that are included with this device.

SST-RVS02accessories

The accessory bundle for the SilverStone SST-RVS02 is very basic: you will find a black and white manual and a USB 3.0 cable. The manual for the SST-RVS02 is quite good as it contains clear directions and excellent diagrams. Because the SST-RVS02 supports SuperSpeed USB 3.0, it comes with a special “Y” cable with three connectors.

On one end is a mini-USB 3.0 connector, while the other end has two Type-A plugs. The black Type-A plug is for USB 3.0 connectivity, while the red plug is to provide additional power (if needed) when using USB 3.0. The only thing lacking in this bundle is a protective pouch, such as the one included in the SilverStone SST-RVS01 2.5” external hard drive enclosure bundle.
