Unboxing the SilverStone SST-TS07B External HDD Enclosure
SilverStone's packaging, like their products, are simple and avoid the glitz normally associated with other competitors. The front of the box offers a few tantalizing clues about what awaits us: 6Gb/s SuperSpeed USB 3.0 transfer rates, support for 3.5" storage devices (2.5" support is also offered using SilverStone's SST-SDP09, sold separately) and backwards compatibility with USB 2.0. It's important to note that SilverStone offers the SST-TS07B in black only.
Turning the box around, we see the specifications of the SST-TS07B: aluminum based, tool-less installation, support for a wide array of operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux and most importantly, USB 3.0 capability. SilverStone does mention that the maximum (theoretical) throughput with the SST-TS07B is 6Gb/s using a SATA III interface. However, expectations must be tempered as this does not take into account system overhead and other factors.
Opening the box, we find the SST-TS07B wrapped in a protective bag and nestled securely in a cardboard tray. Underneath the tray are the accessories for the external enclosure.
The bundle of the SST-TS07B includes a 57" long AC adapter cable, a 36" long USB 3.0 data transfer cable, a stand and a black and white manual. I found the manual to be very well done, complete with clear instructions and good diagrams. The stand is made of clear plastic and is U-shaped to allow the SST-TS07B to easily slip in. The bottom of the plastic stand includes four rubber feet to prevent it from sliding and marking finished surfaces.
