Closer Look: Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset
Here we get a really good look at the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset and we can see that Cooler Master has emblazoned the top of the headband with the CM Storm logo. The primary color scheme of the headset is grey and black which gives it a coolness factor of about 10 in my book, because adding red or any other color to a gaming headset is just wrong.
The Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset is built to last. These things could take some mild abuse and will still be standing when the day is over. So if you pack your headset in a bag to go from LAN party to LAN party, the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset will keep up with you just fine. Now, with that said, a lot of headsets that are rugged and can withstand a bit of abuse are usually heavy. That is not the case here. The Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset was light enough that I played several 4 to 6 hour sessions of Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and not one part of my neck, head, or ears became fatigued. And yes... I like that game a lot.
Here is a closer look at the padding located at the top of the headset. As you can see it is very well padded and provides more than enough comfort for long gaming sessions and even movies. We can also see the very thick braided cord that extends out from the headset. As I said, it seems Cooler Master spared no expense in the materials they used for the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset. Although, I do wish that Cooler Master had made the cord that comes out of the headset about a foot longer as it would have allowed me to have more options in where I placed the tactical mixing unit. With that said, if you choose to connect the headset via your sound card instead of the USB connections through the Mixing unit the cords are even shorter, maybe only around 7 feet long.
Here we get a good look at the outside of one of the earcups. We can see that once again Cooler Master has decided to proudly display the CM Storm logo. Again you can see the solid construction of the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset and that they have clearly marked which ear should go in which cup with the addition of an L and an R on either side of the headset. As small as it is some companies leave this off and it can really foul up the sound for you if you have the cups on the wrong ears.
Now we get to what makes the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset tick. Here is a shot of the actual drivers that are inside each ear cup. As you can see there are four separate speakers in each ear cup so as I said before this is the real deal, this is real 5.1 surround. I am just going to go ahead and say it now. This is the best sounding headset I have ever reviewed. No matter what I threw at the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset it gave it right back to me in crystal clear highs and mind thumping lows. The bass on this headset is freaking insane. No matter what format of audio I used it sounded great. To start off I tried several different styles of music. Black Label Society, Rush, NWA, and Bruno Mars and the sound was just as good as some headphones that I own that cost a lot more money. Next I moved on to movies. I chose "I am Legend" because there are a ton of scenes where there are a lot of noises coming from all directions. With a few adjustments to the front and center speaker sets I felt like I was a part of the movie. There was so much depth to the sound that you could hear Will Smith smack his lips as he ate. I am not kidding it was like you were there. Next up was a week and a half of gaming with Assassins Creed: Brotherhood. Again some on the fly adjustment to the front, center, and rear speaker sets and I truly felt like I was a part of the game. Look at me, I am just gushing.
I have to give Cooler Master credit here because they have made it very easy to remove the ear pads from the Cooler Master Storm Sirus 5.1 Headset by utilizing a snap off bracket that is easily removed from the ear cup for a quick change of the ear pads. All you have to do is pull the bracket off, change out the ear pads and snap it back into place. It takes all of about 30 seconds to switch between the micro fiber ear pads and the also included fake leather ear pads. The micro fiber ear pads can be used for a very comfortable open air feel and the fake leather pads can be used to enhance the bass and have more of a noise canceling effect.
A closer look at the actual bracket reveals that there are tiny little spikes that hold the ear pads in place. This is what allows for the easy removal and re-installation of the ear pads. Pretty innovative if you ask me as most headsets just have a groove the goes around the ear cup that holds the ear pad in place and can sometimes be a pain to install the different ear pads.
