SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Performance Testing
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device as possible.
Testing of the USB3 was done using the SUNBEAMTECH Airbox USB3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. The drive used was a Crucial Technology RealSSD C300 SSD.
Benchmark Results: The USB 3.0 performance on the MSI A75MA-G55 was far from impressive. The average read was only 37.8MB/s and the average write was only 34.8MB/s. With the enclosure that we use there seems to be an issue between the two components. We contacted MSI USA who contacted MSI Taiwan and they are working on sorting out the issue.
HD Tune Pro 4.01 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.
Our testing of the USB 3.0 performance was done using the SUNBEAMTECH Airbox USB3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. The drive used was a Crucial Technology RealSSD C300 SSD.
Benchmark Results: HD Tune is showing us the same issue as above. The Average Read was only 34.6MB/s and the Average Write was only 33.7MB/s.
To confirm that the USB 3.0 works properly we fired up a Thermaltake BlacX 5G USB 3.0 dock with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. As we can see above, the MSI A75MA-G55 didn't have any issues running this with some pretty impressive numbers. It was able to average 211.5MB/s read and 151.9MB/s write.
