AMD CrossFireX Performance Scaling
As with the previous page where we tested the NVIDIA SLI scaling between the chipsets, we want to do the same for the AMD CrossfireX. When we decided to run this series of tests, we were able to get in touch with our friends over at XFX and they kindly sent over a pair of XFX Radeon HD 6950's.
The ASRock Fatal1ty Professional takes the top spots in the charts with a single XFX Radeon HD 6950. Tossing in our second XFX Radeon HD 6950 the Fatal1ty Professional dropped to the second spot at 1280x1024, though it held strong in the top spot at 1920x1080! Looking at the numbers, 1280x1024 started out at 52.3 frames per second with a single card and increased by 97.9% with an average of 103.5 frames per second. Increasing the resolution to 1920x1080 the ASRock Fatal1ty Professional started out at 39 frames per second and jumped to 76.4 frames per second for an increase of 95.9%.
In Metro 2033 the ASRock Fatal1ty Professional had a solid performance. At 1280x1024 the Fatal1ty Professional had a single card performance of 37.6 frames per second and a Crossfire performance of 48.82 frames per second. That's a performance increase of 29.8% which isn't far off from what we have seen in previous boards. Cranking the resolution to 1920x1080 the ASRock Fatal1ty Professional had a single card performance of 29.89 frames per second and a Crossfire performance of 43.62 frames per second. That is a performance increase of 45.9%..
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat the ASRock Fatal1ty Professional had an average performance. It didn't stand out good or bad. At 1280x1024 we saw a single XFX Radeon HD 6950 crank out 107.4 frames per second and Crossfire jumped up to 160.9 frames per second which is an increase of 49.8%. At 1920x1080 we started out with 74.9 frames per second with a single 6950 and in CrossfireX we jumped to 122.9 frames per second. That is an overall performance increase of 64.1%.
