x264 HD Video Encoding

x264 HD Benchmark

Simply put, it is a reproducible measure of how fast your machine can encode a short HD-quality video clip into a high quality x264 video file. It's nice because everyone running it will use the same video clip and software. The video encoder (x264.exe) reports a fairly accurate internal benchmark (in frames per second) for each pass of the video encode and it also uses multi-core processors very efficiently. All these factors make this an ideal benchmark to compare different processors and systems to each other.

x264 HD Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results: Our Intel Core i7 990X Extreme took the lead in the x264 HD Video Benchmark 4.0. Though the Intel Core i5 2500K and the Core i7 2600K were right on it's heels during the first pass. The second pass which is much more processor intensive, let the Intel Core i7 990X Extreme pull away. During the second pass the 990X averaged 49.81 frames per second while the 2600K was averaging 39.93 frames per second. That is a difference of 24.7% which is a solid lead for the Intel Core i7 990X Extreme Edition processor
