As you can see from our results the AMD Radeon HD 6850 graphics card had absolutely no problem playing Total War: Shogun 2 at even the highest settings possible in the game title. Can you imagine what kind of results you would get with a higher end crossfire setup? As you can see the AMD Gaming Evolved Concept has come together to create a game experience that not only looks great on your screen, but it also plays well even without the use of super expensive high end graphics cards.
Although there did appear to be some pretty big differences in FPS between the different presets with the resolution set at 1920x1080, when we dropped down to 1280x1024 there was only a few FPS difference from the higher resolution setting. These results are good, but you'll notice that this game title doesn't support Anti-Aliasing (the AA option is greyed out in the image quality setting menu) or DirectX 11 at the current time. The game developers have made a statement that a DirectX 11 patch is coming out in May 2011 in what they are calling 'patch 2' and that update should also enable AA.
As I said before I am really interested to see what happens with the frame rates we got here today after the patch for the DX 11 compatibility is released. Sound off in the forums and let us know what you think the difference or differences will be once the patch is released in early May.
