Final Thoughts and Conclusion
BIOSTAR isn't one of the big names in motherboards today and, frankly, that's a shame. Throughout our testing today, the BIOSTAR TP67XE motherboard has kept me happy. It may not have been a top performing board across all of our tests today. It did, however, do a great job overall. There are a few minor features I would have liked to have seen, but we will get to those further down the page.
As I said above, the performance of the BIOSTAR TP67XE wasn't mind blowing. Though it's fair to say that it didn't let me down, either. What did impress me, though, was the overclocking ability of the BIOSTAR TP67XE. As we saw on the overclocking page we were able to overclock our Intel Core i5 2500K to 5GHz. I have been able to squeeze a little bit out of the Bclk on some of the boards we have tested, but since the addition of the Internal CPU PLL Voltage override we have had system stability at a x50 multiplier on most of the boards that have it.
Despite a few minor features that I would have like to have seen, the BIOSTAR TP67XE is a great board; especially when you consider that it comes attached to a price tag of only $149.99! When it comes down to it, there are really only two things I would have liked to have seen different on the BIOSTAR TP67XE. The first feature I would have liked to have seen is a clear CMOS button on the back panel. When we were working on overclocking the BIOSTAR TP67XE, we had to reset the CMOS once or twice. The only way to do that on the BIOSTAR TP67XE is the jumper or to remove the battery. It wasn't that bad to do on our test bench because we aren't installed into a case. If we did have the BIOSTAR TP67XE installed in a case, it's still doable, just more difficult. The other feature I would have like to have seen is front panel USB 3.0. It is becoming more of a standard on new cases to include USB 3.0, and I would have liked to have seen it on the BIOSTAR TP67XE.
Yes, the features I mentioned above are something that I would have like to see on the BIOSTAR TP67XE. What we have to keep in mind is price. The BIOSTAR TP67XE comes attached to a price tag of only $149.99! Each and every one of those features would have added to the price. While they would have been nice to see on the BIOSTAR TP67XE, they would have taken away from the overall value of the board. Each feature would have added to the price, driving it up. There are plenty of boards in the ~$170 price range, how many are in the $149.99 range that will perform as well as this one? Until all of the boards are back on the market with the new B3 stepping chips it will be a tough question to answer.
Some of the key selling points for me when purchasing a new motherboard are support and warranty. I was recently trying to pick up a parallel port expansion bracket for one of my BIOSTAR boards through customer support. I sent an e-mail to the BIOSTAR sales team through the company website on a Saturday afternoon and I got a response back on Monday morning. Not every company I have contacted has gotten back to me that fast; I'll admit that I was very pleased with the customer service experience I had with BIOSTAR. Warranty is also a factor in the purchasing decision. Fortunately, BIOSTAR has you covered. The BIOSTAR TP67XE comes with a three year warranty (first 2 years parts and labor, third year parts only) from the manufacture date.
Legit Bottom Line: There are some motherboards out there that will offer more features than the BIOSTAR TP67XE. There are none that have come across my bench that will offer you more bang for your buck! The BIOSTAR TP67XE will make a great mainboard for any level user out there today!
