Overclocking the AMD Phenom II X6 1075T
Overclocking greatly varies due to what hardware is being used and who is doing the overclocking. Always remember that no two pieces of hardware will perform the same, so our results will differ from what you might be able to get.
With stock BIOS settings, the AMD Phenom II X6 1075T processor runs with a 200MHz bus speed (base clock) and an x15.0 multiplier that is used to reach the final core clock of 3.0GHz when all the cores are at full load.
Firing up the MSI 890FXA-GD70 motherboard into the BIOS I was able to increase the FSB of the AMD Phenom II X6 1075T little by little. Leaving everything on auto I was able to get close to the coveted 4GHz mark with no additional voltages. To break the 4GHz barrier we did need to add a bit of voltage, though it only needed to be raised to 1.45 Volts. With that we were able to increase the FSB to 278MHz for a rock solid overclock of 1170MHz which is a 39% overclock.
Firing up wPrime we can see that each setting was stable with a full load across all six cores. wPrime also allows us to see the performance gains from each overclock. Overall we were able to knock off over 76 seconds or 27.6% of the total time from the 1024 million test. Not a bad bit of "free performance"!
