Power Consumption

Since power consumption is a big deal these days, we ran some simple power consumption tests on our test beds. To measure idle usage, we ran the system at idle for one hour on the desktop with no screen saver and took the measurement. For load measurements, Cinebench R11.5 was run on all cores to make sure each and every processor was at 100% load.

When it comes to power consumption, the ASRock 880G Extreme3 is not going to win the battle of being the most energy efficient motherboard out there. It is not horrible by any means, but it did not compare to the lower consumption that we saw in the ECS A890GXM-A review
With the integrated graphics of the 880G, we saw an increase of about 72 watts, which is about a 39% increase. When we added the graphics card, we saw the difference between idle and load increase to around 92 watts, which ended up being about a 45% increase. Not quite as good as we had hoped for.
