The BoomBoom Factor
The BoomBoom Speaker hooks straight into your 3.5 audio jack and one of your available USB ports and requires no other power source. The design is very slim and extremely compact. I was actually amazed at how little the BoomBoom Speaker was. In the pictures I saw prior to getting it the speaker looked much bigger. The version I received is the gloss black version, but I have seen a white version of the speaker as well. With a one year warranty and a price tag of $24.99 shipped in either black or white colors you would think that you couldn't go wrong. Choiix states on their website that the BoomBoom Speaker provides a richer, fuller sound than your laptop's internal speakers. As I learned this is not entirely the case.
Some of the noticeable features of the BoomBoom Speaker are the speaker cover/door that also acts as the stand so that you can prop the speaker up. Another feature that I liked was the fact that the audio cable fits snugly into a groove around the outside of the BoomBoom Speaker itself which is quite a handy way of helping us all not lose the darn cord. As I mentioned before the door on the front of the speaker closes and will help keep the speakers clean as well as protect them while they are packed away for transport.
Cooler Master C-PA01-KK Choiix BoomBoom Speaker Features:
- Ultra slim design with storable cord for convenient portability.
- High gloss finish has a clean appearance and elegant feel.
- Four integrated highly-sensitive drivers and amplifier provide impressive sound quality and volume.
- Rich and clear sound for your music, movies and teleconference calls.
- Protective speaker lid doubles as a speaker stand.
- Standard 3.5 mm audio cable makes it easy to connect to any audio device.
- Powered by USB.
No matter what form of audio I used and no matter which device I hooked the BoomBoom speaker up to I didn't truly feel it was better than the speakers that were already there. The internal speakers on the Compaq Presario CQ60- 615DX Laptop laptop had far more clarity, volume and bass than did the BoomBoom Speaker. The BoomBoom speaker just sort of sounded weak and if the volume was turned up too loud the speaker would distort to the point of not being able to distinguish what was coming out of it. When I hooked it up to the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook I could not tell a difference between the netbook speakers and the Choiix BoomBoom box. They were both very treble heavy and would distort at just mid range volumes. This happened with music, movies and games.
Now if you are looking for a setup that requires low volume music or if you want to watch a movie quietly on your laptop then by all means the BoomBoom speaker will get the job done. But with a $24.99 price tag it would be kind of hard for me to justify paying that much just to keep quiet.
