Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Having never tested or used a GELID product before this, I will say my experience with GELID has been a very nice one. The Cooler is well built, looks nice, is quiet and easy to install, and coupled with the GC Extreme thermal compound, it performs very well. The only real thing I can say that would be a negative against the Icy Vision would be that it takes a dual slot card and turns it into a 2.5-3 slot card, which is what could be the one thing that keeps some from considering it.
Currently, the Icy Vision not only supports the GTX480, but the GTX470 and GTX465 as well, not to mention a dozen other cards from nVidia and ATI. In looking online I was able to find the Icy Vision for $55 +shipping via Google Shopping. I looked on GELID's site and found a list of shops that carry their products. I found the Icy Vision is available from Mwave.com for $49.99 +shipping if you're in their MClub or if you join it.
So, what we have is an option to not only cool the card better, but lessen the noise to keep sanity for those not ready to make the jump to water or just don’t want to spend that kind of cash right now. $55 is a whole lot easier to let go of than the $200+ that it would take to get a system under water. The Icy Vision is very quiet as compared to the stock fan. The stock fan at 100% can get north of 65dBa; the Icy Vision, on the other hand, runs at 100% all the time at less than 30dBa.
Legit Bottom Line: GELID Icy Vision is a nice aftermarket air solution that won’t break the bank and will keep your card cool and quiet in the process.
