Gelid Icy Vision Testing Results

GELID Icy Vision VGA Cooler

GELID also sent along some of their GC Extreme thermal compound and asked us to test the Icy Vision with it. So we tested the Icy Vision as we normally do and then with the GC Extreme.

With the card running stock, with the stock cooler it runs a toasty 92*C. The Icy Vision with AS Lumiere ran a nice 8 degrees cooler. What got our attention was the Icy Vision with GC Extreme, which was 22 degrees cooler than stock. That, combined with how quiet it is, is well worth the $55 for the cooler and the $10 for the TIM.

Cranking the card up to the max OC we could get on air made the temps skyrocket. Stock cooler and Icy Vision were both at 100*C at full load. The Icy Vision with the GC Extreme is doing it much, much more quietly. The stock fan at 100% is much like a hair dryer running at 65dBA+; the Icy Vision at 100% is hardly noticeable in comparison, running at 26dBA. It's not silent by any means, but sub 30dBA from a video card is nice. The Idle temps dropped 12 degrees as well to 36*C from 48*C.
