Real World Use and the Bottom Line

These gestures are simply explained with pictures in the "getting started" information shown above.

The keyboard was easy to setup and, when the USB receiver was plugged into the computer, the keyboard was immediately operational. I hooked this keyboard up to my Shuttle SG31G2 XPC running Ubuntu Linux. I was impressed that most of the shortcut and function keys worked with Linux, but that was more a feature of my OS version than the keyboard
The keyboard, although light, has a good feel for typing. The key action is good and composing short notes was easy, especially with the props deployed to increase the angle. The mouse buttons and shortcut keys around the mouse required a firm press and reverberated upon clicking. This effect took away from the feeling of solidity of the keyboard. I would have preferred a lighter click.

The keyboard is, as mentioned above, a laptop type layout. I found the backspace key to be smaller than I'd like, and the lack of modifiers on the right side of the keyboard (crtl and windows/command) made one hand operation a bit more difficult. The layout issues, however, became less of an issue as I got used to the keyboard. One thing that I could not get past was the lack of an indicator for either the caps lock or num lock. The Numlock is automatically activated, so to disable it you need to press "Fn+Numlock" to unlock the setting. The Logitech DiNovo Edge that I usually use has a rising or falling tone to indicate the action of turning caps lock on of off.

Initially, the keyboard worked great from the coffee table, about 12ft from my computer closet. I had the USB receiver plugged into the front of my computer and, so, had line of sight from the keyboard to the receiver. Over the week and a half that I was reviewing the device I've had many frustrating issues with the keyboard and computer not communicating. In contrast, I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Bluetooth keyboard w/trackpad ($162.99 on Newegg) that works fine in the same position. Unfortunately, the only way to know if this keyboard will work for you is to try it out in your living room.
The Legit Bottom Line: The Rosewill RK-V1TP Super Slim Wireless-Touchpad Keyboard is a good solution for your HTPC system at the $59.99 price depending on the environment that you use it. The 20 meter range estimate can be very optimistic if you have too much interference in your living room.
