SRS Labs HD Audio Lab: Concluding Opinion
SRS made a believer out of me with their HD Audio Lab software. Not only did it stand up to music, movies, and games it stood up to the opinion of a true music lover. HD audio Lab was able to take the media I had and actually make it better. It made my headphones sound like I was watching a movie at the theater, so much so that I had to break out my Gameskulls GS-1 Gaming Helmet to see what was up. I am glad to report that yes, it even made the often muddy sounding GS-1 sound killer. I do have to admit that as I write this I am listening to Van Halen's Diver Down Album on ITunes with the GS-1 on my head. And wouldn't you know it? I shut it down to try and switch audio sources and I guess that is a no-no, judging by the message that pops up. But I guess a quick glance at the help menu will get this sorted out. With easy to understand error messages and an easy to navigate help system you will have no trouble at all working with HD Audio Lab.
Aside from the headphones it made my Klipsch 2.1 speakers sound like a full-fledged 5.1 system even while watching a Nirvana concert. While watching Indiana Jones my son was actually looking around the room to see where the sounds were coming from. That's impressive because I even looked around a few times. It seemed that sounds would come from out of nowhere; I have never used software that can do that. So with a price tag like $29.99 for the download version and $39.99 for the retail boxed version you can save a little money, too. No matter how you choose to buy it both methods of delivery are exactly the same, so to me the download is the better value as it is $10.00 cheaper.
