Power Consumption

For testing power consumption, we took our test system and plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt power meter. For idle numbers, we allowed the system to idle on the desktop for 15 minutes and took the reading. For load numbers we measured the peak wattage used by the system while running the OpenGL benchmark FurMark 1.8.2 at 1920x1200 resolution.

Total System Power Consumption Results

Power Consumption Results: The total board power for the GeForce GTX 460 1GB video card is 160W, while the 768MB model is 150W. Our testing showed that at the wall our entire system drew ~20W more power with the 1GB card installed. The EVGA GeForce GTX 460 768MB SuperClocked card has the same voltages as a stock card, so the idle power numbers were the same. The EVGA SuperClocked card did peak nearly 30 Watts higher than the standard GTX 460 768MB though, which is likely due to the higher clock speeds. When run in SLI the EVGA GeForce GTX 460 768MB SuperClocked cards had roughly the same power usage as the GeForce GTX 480 at load, but less at idle.
