Installing Parts

Installing hardware into the SilverStone PS05 wasn't too bad. To be honest, this is where I realized how to mount the motherboard in the case as there were no mounting screws. The hardest part of the install process was when the power went out and with outside temps reaching 108F, the room was reaching 90F. Bummer indeed. The PS05 did allow the room for a GTX 480 to be installed. HOWEVER, I will say that the tool-less mechanism was having trouble keeping it in place.

Here you can see that the GTX 480 was drooping a bit. I don't think it's just the 480 having the issue as quite a few dual-slot video cards are a little on the heavy side. If you choose to move the case, it may droop even more, though.

I like how SilverStone implemented the top fans on the PS05. Quite simply, all that needs to be done is to slide the fans into the detachable fan filter piece, and they'll pop into place nice and snug. There is a routing hole nearby for the wires to easily be connected to the motherboard.

This disappoints me a little bit since this isn't the first time I've seen this on other cases, although I had no need for it during the review. As you can see, the CPU cutout doesn't line up too well with the board used. In my opinion, it completely defeats the purpose of the cutout hole. It is close enough that a small mod can alleviate that issue but still, that shouldn't have to be done.

For kicks and giggles, I installed the 9600 GSO inside to give an idea what a single slotted GPU would more or less look like. There's a bit more room than with the GTX 480, huh? You might not get the same drooping effect with a card like this but it is possible if you move the case around a bit.
