HD Tune Pro v4.01
HD Tune Pro 4.01 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.
Benchmark Results: The S596 didn't quite reach the 240-250MB/s speeds listed in the specifications but the 219MB/s average is still very good and the variance between the min and max was minor.
Benchmark Results: It was somewhat surprising that the HD Tune Pro write test didn't produce crazy results like we have seen with the JMicron controllers on the other drives which may mean the ADATA has a firmware version that works better with this particular benchmark. Writes were still a little lower than specifications.
Benchmark Results: So no weirdness on the write test but we do see it here on the writes for the file benchmark test. Writes show way below specification although we did not see this on all file lengths.
Benchmark Results: We also ran this test with the S596 connected to the USB port. Obviously, the performance is way below the SATA II interface performance with the bandwidth of the USB 2.0 interface being the limiting factor.
