NMP-1000 - NAS Features

Besides the great multimedia playback abilities, we have to remember that QNAP really built this unit as a player and a Network Attached Storage device. Other QNAP NAS’s have been very good performers and as a NAS, the NMP-1000 really doesn’t disappoint.

The NMP-1000 has a built-in file server feature that allows you to create user ID and passwords, user groups and even define access rights to disk data. It also supports Dynamic DNS (DDNS) so that you can remote access the unit from outside your network which is very cool if you are like me and use remote access all the time to manage your various computers.

The NMP-1000 has a P2P BitTorrent client that is independent of a PC so you can do “PC-less” BitTorrent downloads. You can manage these download tasks with the remote control or by logging onto its web-based interface.

Since QNAP based the NMP-1000 on the NTFS file system, it can act as a mass storage device for any Windows PC. The “eSATA-to-PC” port and “USB-to-PC” port on the back is for direct connection to the PC. For some, this might be an optimal solution for those interested in copying large files since the throughput for eSATA is much faster than an Ethernet connection.
