Power Consumption

Since power consumption is a big deal these days, we ran some simple power consumption tests on our test beds. To measure idle usage, we ran the system at idle for one hour on the desktop with no screen saver and took the measurement. For load measurements, Cinebench R1.5 was run on all cores to make sure each and every processor was at 100% load.

The power consumption of the ECS 890GXM-A motherboard saw a substantial increase when adding the Gigabyte Radeon HD5670 dedicated graphics card.  At idle, the dedicated card consumes 34% more watts, while at load, we see an increased wattage of a little over 14%.
