ATTO and CrystalDiskMark
ATTO is one of the oldest hard drive benchmarks that is still used today. ATTO measures transfers across a specific volume length. It measures raw transfer rates for both reads and writes and places the data into graphs that you can easily interpret. The test was run with the default runs of 0.5kb through 8192kb transfer sizes with the total length being 256mb.
In the Overlapped I/O test the TS-459 Pro was able to reach 102 MB/sec in the read test and 83 MB/sec in the write.
As you can see from the ATTO benchmark test on the TS-419P, write speeds have increased from about 28 MB/sec to more than 80 MB/sec and read speeds have increased from about 65 MB/sec to more than 100 MB/sec. These are some excellent speed increases.
After reconfiguring the network connections and enabling Port Trunking with Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing, I reran the ATTO test. Here we can again see a slight improvement in both read and write compared to using a single Ethernet port.
The last benchmark we ran was CrystalDiskMark, which is a small HDD benchmark utility for your hard drive that enables you to rapidly measure sequential and random read/write speeds.
With the CrystalDiskMark v2.2 run using both a file size of 50MB and 100MB, a slight performance difference was observed in the write speeds only. CrystalDiskMark showed the best numbers using 50MB files and achieved a 64 MB/sec read and 94 MB/sec write top speed. Here again, compared to the TS-419P are some nice speed increases; however, I could not explain why the write speeds were higher than the read speeds.
