HD Tach v3.0.4.0

HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device as possible.

HD Tach Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results: The Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB SSD was able to reach 242, an amazing 319.2MB/s read and 196.5MB/s write. This is the highest average read speed that we have ever seen and is thanks primarily to the SATA 6Gbps interface on the ASUS P6X58D Premium Motherboard. The random access time and CPU utilization were really low, which is what we like to see on SSDs.

HD Tach Benchmark Results

Comparison Chart: Compared to other popular SSDs the Crucial RealSSD C300 drives' average read speed blew away the OCZ Vertex LE 100GB SSD and even the Intel X25-M Gen 2 160GB 34nm SSD that is known to have unreal sequential read performance. The average write speeds on the C300 were just shy of what we saw on the OCZ Vertex LE and were just under the 200MB/s mark. The random access times were too close to show anything and the burst speeds were off. The results of HD Tach's CPU utilization test don't mean much as the application has a +/- 2% margin of error and the results of the benchmark are within the margin of error, which doesn't represent a significant difference. Let's take a look at a different benchmark and see what it shows for write performance.
