Power Consumption

For testing power consumption, we took our test system and plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt power meter. For idle numbers, we allowed the system to idle on the desktop for 15 minutes and took the reading. For load numbers we measured the peak wattage used by the system while running the OpenGL benchmark FurMark 1.7.0 at 1920x1200 resolution.

Total System Power Consumption Results

Power Consumption Results: The Sapphire Radeon HD 5570 1GB GDDR3 graphics card had great power consumption numbers. At idle the entire Core i7 test system consumed just 150W at idle and 208W at 100% GPU load. The Radeon HD 5570 in CrossFire had an idle power consumption of 161W with a peak power usage of just 249W. Looking at the chart above and seeing the load power consumption numbers range from 171W to 599W makes it hard to believe the numbers are from the same platform!
