Sandra 2009 Memory Bandwidth
The Sisoft Sandra 2009 benchmark utility just came out recently and we have started to include it in our benchmarking. With Sandra 2009 you can now easily compare the performance of the tested device with its speed and its (published) power (TDP)! Sandra XII SP2 also has SSE4 (Intel) and SSE4A (AMD) benchmark code-paths, which is great for those of you testing next-generation AMD & Intel chips.
Results: The ASUS Eee PC 1005PE's new platform with the Intel Atom N450 shows to have slightly more memory bandwidth than previous netbooks based around the Intel Atom N270 and N280 processors.
HDTune is a free benchmark that measures the disk's transfer rates, access time, burst rate, and CPU utilization when reading from the disk.
Results: Here we see slightly better than expected hard drive performance for Eee PCs. The CPU Usage is creaping up a little higher than we are used to seeing, but performance as a whole was very good on the Seagate hard drive ASUS used. The main thing to notice is the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE comes with a 250GB hard drive instead of the previously traditional 160GB hard drive with the previous generation of netbooks.
Geekbench 2 is designed as a powerful program which can allow you to measure the performance of your computer's processor and memory. In addition, Geekbench also offers the Geekbench Result Browser which lets you compare your Geekbench scores with other Geekbench users.
Results: Here we see the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE fall in right where we expected. Geekbench showed the Atom N450 platform is overall better than the previous N270 and N280-based systems, but performs a little less than the dual core Intel Atom N330-based Eee PC 1201N.
