Final Thoughts & Conclusions
Let's wrap up what we have learned about the A-DATA Nobility S805 and we'll start with the positives. It has an attractive and distinctive design with a the functionality of a carabiner that allows easy attachment just about anywhere with reassurance that it won't break off. The swivel portion of the device is the actual drive itself and since it tucks away when not in use, there's no need for a separate cap that just ends up lost anyway. Read scores are better than I expected so no complaints there.
On the down side (for some), the S805 is missing the normally ubiquitous LED indicator of I/O activity but this is not a deal breaker by any stretch. Write speeds are a little below what we'd like but again, it isn't marketed as a performance drive. At $23 there's not much room to complain as faster drives mean higher binned, faster, and more expensive NAND flash.
At the end of the day, we've determined that the A-DATA Nobility S805 is a sensibly designed drive that's well-suited for casual use and should stand up to some serious abuse so go ahead and clip it to the outside of your bag. Those looking for high write performance might look elsewhere but for most people the S805 should meet their needs as the reads are very good.
Legit Bottom Line: While write speeds are a little under what we'd like to see, the A-DATA Nobility S805 8GB USB flash drive is a solid overall performer with speedy read scores as and attractively priced within its product group. The unique but functional design makes it easy to use and transport, while being both visually appealing and durable.
