Dry Ice Results

Dry ice is relatively simple to use as a coolant. Dry ice is formed from solidified carbon dioxide and it sublimates at -78.5 Celsius. Since dry ice is a solid you need a heat transfer fluid that remains fluid around -78.5 Celsius. Popular choices tend to be solvents like acetone and high purity ethanol. For today's testing I used 1/2 cup of acetone and smashed my dry ice into pieces around the size of a large pea to a small grape. Ideally you want the smallest dry ice chunks possible making rice pellet dry ice used for media blasting the optimal choice. Dry ice can be sourced at grocery stores, metal-working shops, and some automotive restoration shops to name a few places. Through all the tests I tried to keep the pot half full with dry ice and stirred the dry ice with a fork to agitate it and assist with heat transfer.

An easy way to summarize the CPU-LN2's performance would be "progress". It is easily a better dry ice pot than my F1EE and the Rev 2 outperforms my recorded results on the Rev 1. In general I was experiencing IHS temps for 1 and 2 threaded loads around -64C which is a huge improvement over the ~-56C I was achieving with the CPU-LN2 Rev1. Keep in mind the CPU-LN2 Rev2 was also tested with a processor at 5100MHz instead of 5000MHz and vcore in the 1.6v range versus 1.55v with the Rev1 results. For 8 threaded loads performance was a little closer between the two pots with IHS temps in the -56C to -55C range with wPrime1024M and -59C for 3DMark Vantage CPU test for the CPU-LN2 Rev2 versus -51C to -50C for the CPU-LN2 Rev1. Once again the CPU was at 5100MHz for the Rev2 and 4900MHz for the Rev1, further showing the better performance achieved with the Rev2.
