Overclocking Part 1

Mushkin DDR3-1600 Blackline tRTP warning

I feel for the guy who had to sit there and print, cut, and insert all of these warnings into each memory kit. Since the little warning and the Mushkin PR person both suggested keeping tRTP at the above mentioned values I did so like a good little reviewer. Anyways, I started off my testing by sticking with the memory timings set by the XMP profile. Turns out the kit has some decent headroom at stock timings.

Not bad, a shade over DDR3-1800 for a 14% overclock from stock. I then decided I'd loosen up the CAS and tRP values to more common timings. I was expecting to see a healthy jump, perhaps another ~200MHz.

I sat there and scratched the scruff on my chin. There must be something wrong, going to CAS8 did absolutely nothing. So like anyone else short on time I bumped up vdimm and vtt to no avail. Setting 1.70vdimm and 1.3vtt in fact caused more instability, I couldn't even load Windows at DDR3-1848 let alone crash out of Super Pi. Fear not, all is not lost!
