The Test System

Testing the 850w Black Edition took a little be more than what I had used in the past to test a PSU. My normal test bench hardly stressed the unit at all and it did not waver. So in talking to the Legit Reviews Editor in Chief, Nate, I got access to a pair of ATI HD5970’s. With a pair of these loaded up we knew we could make just about any power supply work hard.
The rest of the system is as follows:

| Motherboard | Asus P6T Deluxe V2 | Click Here |
| Memory | Corsair 6GB 1866 CL9 @ 1.65v | -- |

The system, with all the above, was left to sit running idle at the desktop, and voltages were checked at several places in the system: the main 24pin connector, video card connectors, and a 4pin molex connector. The reason for this was due to the fact we are comparing the XFX 850w Black Edition to the Cooler Master Ultimate UCP-1100W, an 1100W power supply that costs roughly the same amount of money at around $200, but has multiple 12v rails (6, to be exact).
Then the system was run at 100% CPU load by running Prime95 Inplace FFTS, as well as the video cards being loaded up by running Furmark @ 1600x1200, all while playing a music CD in the DVD ROM Drive and all system fans at 100%. With the system humming along we then checked all the voltages again.
