Using an SSD with the Patriot Box Office

We eventually installed a local hard drive to load up with multimedia. We used a Kingston 40GB V Series SSD “Boot Drive” for this task. Physically installing this drive took only minutes, and when the Box Office was powered up, it instantly recognized that there was a new drive present and asked if we wanted to format it.

Formatting the 40GB drive took less than 3 minutes. While the format was going, the Patriot software not only gave us a “working” icon, we saw indications that the install of BT/Samba extensions were proceeding.

With the drive now installed, we now had the option of transferring multimedia miles directly to the local storage of the Box Office.

We decided to transfer a Blu-ray rip of Inside Man from a USB thumb drive to the local drive. After creating a directory on the Patriot, we selected out source file and the target destination. This MKV file was 8.74GB large and transferred in just under 20 minutes. While not exactly blazing, this is about on par for USB transfer speeds.
