Torqx 128GB – Case, Guts & Accessories
The Patriot Torqx comes nicely packaged in clamshell plastic along with a modest instructional brochure and a jumper for firmware updates.
Also packaged with the drive is a 2.5” to 5.25” bracket adapter so the SSD can be placed in the traditional hard drive bays of a desktop PC.
This is a nice feature to include because even though the SSD is very resistant to damage, you don't want it floating around in your case when moving it where it could damage other components.
The exterior of the Torqx is nothing exciting, nor does it need to be for on most PC's it will be nestled away doing its thing behind the scenes. The external components consist of a black casing in the 2.5” form factor with an aluminum backplate stamped with model and serial number information.
The top is adorned with the Patriot branded Torqx sticker which features pseudo-holographic reflections for your visual entertainment.
The other external features were the dual "warranty void if broken" seals which I promptly ignored and cut through to show our readers the glorious guts of the beast.
On the circuit board lies the Indilinx ARM7 controller, which is the brain of the operation.
The controller is flanked by two rows of Samsung K9HCG08U1M-PCB00 NAND MLC flash which a quick Google search informs me are 48-pin, RoHS-compliant, and lead-free for the eco-friendly minded enthusiast.
This is basically the same design as several other drives on the market today. Enough about how it looks...how does it perform?
