Sandra 2009, HD Tune and Geekbench

Sandra 2009 Memory Bandwidth

The Sisoft Sandra 2009 benchmark utility just came out recently and we have started to include it in our benchmarking. With Sandra 2009 you can now easily compare the performance of the tested device with its speed and its (published) power (TDP)! Sandra XII SP2 also has SSE4 (Intel) and SSE4A (AMD) benchmark code-paths, which is great for those of you testing next-generation AMD & Intel chips.

 

Again, the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA has slightly better memory bandwidth than all the other netbooks at stock speeds. The MSI Wind U100 with a 15% overclock is the only netbook that had a higher memory bandwidth score.

HDTune

HDTune is a free benchmark that measures the disk's transfer rates, access time, burst rate, and CPU utilization when reading from the disk.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell HDTune

Device manager in Windows XP shows the hard drive as the Hitachi HTS543216L9SA00, which is a 160 GB hard drive that is part of the Travelstar 5K320 series. An interesting point about this drive is that it has a maximum data transfer rate of 1.5 Gbps; meaning it is only a SATA drive, not SATA II like the Seagate Momentus 5400.5 hard drive found in the Eee PC 1000HE. ASUS likely made the switch for cost savings, but sacrificed a little performance in the process.

Geekbench

Geekbench is new to our netbook testing suite so we don't have as much history as we do on the other benchmarks. We see that the 1005HA performs slightly better than the MSI U100 in most of the tests at stock speeds.
