Apple’s Phil Schiller Says New Mac Pro is Coming

By

Apple Senior VP of worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller has stepped up and let word out that Apple hasn’t forgotten about the users out there who are big fans of the Mac Pro. He even apologized to the people out there who might be bummed that Apple hasn’t upgraded the Mac Pro in the last several years. Schiller says that Apple is going to come out with something great to replace the current Mac Pro.

It seems Apple has realized that with the Mac Pro they focused more on clever design that actual usefulness for the pro users the machine was aimed at. Apple fans in the professional world have also been more than a bit upset that Apple discontinued that external display that many pro users used along with their desktop computers. That failing will be addressed as well with a new external display in the works according to TechCrunch.

The rub for Mac Pro and Mac display fans is that none of these new products will land this year. That is a bummer considering we aren’t even out of the first quarter of 2017 yet. The only thing we will see this year will be a bump in the performance of the existing computer, presumably with new processors of Kaby Lake or other flavors.

Schiller also gave up some details on sales of Apple computers, something Apple is typically very mum on. According to Schiller Apple sells a ratio of 80% notebooks to 20% desktops. MacBook Pro notebooks are selling very well with 20% growth for fiscal Q1 year over year. Schiller notes that a single digit percentage of Mac customers use the Mac Pro and because of that Apple is completely rethinking the Mac Pro. What we know so far is that the new Mac Pro will be modular, presumably to allow for upgrades easily down the road. This is something Apple has lost out on greatly against Windows machines that are easily upgradeable in all aspects. We will have to wait until at least 2018 to see what Apple does with its rethought Pro line.
