Apple buying part of Hynix

Apple has agreed to buy at least 20 percent of Hynix Semiconductor Inc.’s NAND flash memory chips until 2010! This is a big move and should help Apple secure a steady suppy of memory for their handheld devices.

Apple Computer agreed to buy at least 20 percent of Hynix Semiconductor Inc.’s NAND flash memory chips until 2010 to secure components for its iPod devices. Apple, which uses NAND as the main component for its iPod Nano players, agreed in December to buy 40 million gigabytes of the chips this year from Hynix, and to increase orders by at least 180 percent a year until the end of the decade.
