AMD to be at 45nm in 2008

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is proceeding to switch 90% of its desktop-processor production to the 65nm node by the end of 2007, according to motherboard makers familiar with AMD’s latest roadmap. In mid-2008, AMD is scheduled to implement 45nm process technology, with the aim of making further cost reductions, said the makers.

By the end of 2007, AMD’s complete dual-core CPU lineup, as well as 80% of the single-core segment, will be manufactured using 65nm process technology, the makers indicated. About 18 months after mass production of AMD’s first 65nm CPU, the chip vendor will announce its first 45nm-made product, which will appear in its next-generation Socket AM3 CPU lineup, said the makers.
