3DMark 11 is the latest version of the worlds most popular benchmark for measuring the 3D graphics performance of gaming PCs. 3DMark 11 uses a native DirectX 11 engine designed to make extensive use of all the new features in DirectX 11, including tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading.

Since Futuremark has recently released 3DMark11 we decided to run the benchmark at both performance and extreme presets to see how our hardware will run.

Nearly all gamers use some version of 3DMark for testing, so we ran Futuremark 3DMark11 with the performance preset enabled to see how the AMD Radeon HD 7970 does in CrossFire. The XFX Radeon HD 7950 Black Edition was able to hit a very respectable score of 8069 in the performance preset! The next closest competitor was the EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified with a score of 7313. The AMD Radeon HD 7950 was more than 1000 points back with a score of 6926, a difference of 16.5%.

We also ran Futuremark 3DMark11 with the extreme present and found the XFX Radeon HD 7950 Black Edition to hit a score of X2559 which is only 193 3DMarks or 7.5% behind the AMD Radeon HD 7970! The AMD Radeon HD 7950 was able to hit X2294 which is 11.6% behind the XFX Radeon HD 7950 BE.
