AMD GDC 2017 Highlights: No Official Vega Launch, But More Technical Information Released

Today marks a very important day for AMD, hot on the heels of Ryzen, as they announced details of their next generation GPU, the much-awaited Vega. The show opened with Raja asking the crowd if they were happy with what AMD had done in the past twelve months. The crowd responded pretty favorably, to which he reflected he was happy, but there was a lot more work to be done so that AMD can appeal to gamers. Raja then went on to explain the reasoning behind the Capsaicin and Cream naming of the event and then informed the members of the audience that they would all be treated to fresh, nitrogen created ice cream. This was all of course a tease to what everybody has been waiting for, more information on Vega. Raja, unfortunately, did inform the audience that there will be no official product launch of Vega, but the architecture was gone over in more detail.

This isn’t the awesome news people were expecting today, as a true product announcement of a Vega-based graphics card would have been a great way to follow up the launch of Ryzen.

More info will come as the AMD Capsaicin & Cream event continues. Be sure to check out the live stream, now, on the AMD Twitch page.
