Amazon Blended-Reality Mirror Patent Lets You Try On Clothes at the Beach

The hardest thing for Amazon to overcome when it comes to people buying clothing on its digital shelves is letting the folks see what the clothing looks like on their own body. This is the reason that many people cite for still buying clothing in retail stores where they can try it on. A new patent app has turned up that shows a very cool blended-reality mirror that Amazon is eyeing reports Geekwire.

The mirror would be able to show a user’s reflection wearing any clothing that the digital retailer offers. At least the shopper could see what the clothing looks like even if they cant check fit or feel what the fabric is like. The patent gives a bit of insight into how the mirror would look.

According to the patent, the mirror would use an effect called “Pepper’s Ghost” as inspiration, the same sort of tech used by teleprompters and amusement park rides like the Haunted Mansion at Disney Land. The mirror would allow users to try on virtual clothing using cameras, projector displays, mirrors, and lights.

The user could also change the scene in the background to see what clothing looks like at the beach for instance. The inventors said, “When the user views the mirror, the user sees a reflection from the mirror of illuminated objects in the scene and the transmitted images from the display device through the mirror, the transmitted images being perceived as part of the reflected scene.” The patent app certainly doesnt mean that the mirror will come to be, but it is very interesting.
